Miss Lovely: Review
Miss Lovely: In his debut Indie film, director Ashim Ahluwalia brings a clear picture of the bad world of the Mumbai C-grade film industry with this film which was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film festival 2013 and also won accolades in Toronto and Rotterdam. The filmmaker succeeds in combining the 16mm, 35mm and the HD footages in giving the film his desired look along with the kind of cinematography by K.U. Mohanan which is fast paced and is able bring out the noirish beauty of the film, loaded with a music score sourced from the legendary Illayaraja and Biddu, along with BGM score by Egisto Macchi and Piero Umiliani. Even the editing by Ashim and Paresh Kamdar is interesting and successfully adds some thrills and chills. The problem with "Miss Lovely" is with the film's structure where the beginning 15 minutes will make you think about what actually happened, then after that the film gains some pace and then rest is assured. In the performances, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is simply humane and riveting, Anil George and Niharika Singh being out perfect shades of grey. Overall, a different cinematic experience meant for a must watch.
My rating would be: 4/5.
